Any seat that is broken or has been in a crash should be replaced. 2 – Check the Label Check the label to see if the seat actually appropriate for your child’s age, weight, and height. Also check the expiration date to make sure it is still safe. Most safety seats expire after six years. 3 – Make Sure it is Installed Properly About 73% of car seats are not installed correctly. If you tug at the base, it should not move more than an inch. If you pinch the strap at your child’s shoulder, there should be no excess webbing.
