Safest Used Cars

Fall is the busiest time of year for new car releases, and with more 2013 models available drivers will begin to see an influx of 2011 and 2012 models hitting used car dealer’s showrooms.  To help customers decide which models will best fit their needs, we’ve compiled a list of those vehicles that stand out in one important factor: safety.

Every year the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a nonprofit research organization dedicated to reducing vehicle crash related injury and death, releases their Top Safety Pick award winners.  To receive this designation, a vehicle must earn a score of “good” in all four Institute crash tests: front, side, rollover and rear.

Below are a few of the models that received IIHS Top Safety Picks for both the 2012 and 2011 model years, separated by segment:

Small Cars:

  • Chevrolet Cruze
  • Nissan Cube
  • Toyota Corolla

Midsize Cars:
