The seasons are changing which means it’s time for another round of car maintenance. Fortunately, much of the recommended fall car maintenance falls in the realm of basic maintenance. The certified technicians at a dealership are capable of performing most basic maintenance items in a timely manner. Here are a few essential maintenance items to check before the cooler months are in full swing.

Oil

Oil plays three main roles within the engine block. As you can imagine, it’s a pretty important part of seasonal and basic maintenance. Have your oil changed according to the mileage or time intervals found in your owner’s manual.

Tires

Tires with the proper amount of tread increase grip, allowing you to corner and handle slippery surfaces better. Examine each tire to determine how much tread is left. Insert a Penny upside down into the tread – if Abraham Lincoln’s head is visible on the penny, it’s time for a new set of tires. If your tires have plenty of tread, a tire rotation never hurts!

Brakes

A working brake system is essential to getting to and from your destinations safely all season, and year, long. Summer can be particularly hard on the brakes, what with all the vacations and heavy traffic. Make it a point to have your braking system inspected. Have any potential problems fixed; the cold weather of near-winter will only make them worse.
